The investigators classify the ax attacker as "obviously perplexed individual perpetrators". There is no evidence of a political or religious motive - a terrorist attack.

Perpetrators wanted to be shot by the police

The suspect comes from Kosovo, has a "residence permit for humanitarian reasons". He had seriously injured himself in his flight through the jump from a bridge himself, had to be operated in a Düsseldorf hospital and is currently not yet able to be heard. In an initial interrogation, the perpetrator stated that he had expected the police to be shot, he said.

A S-Bahn driver had probably prevented worse. The man had closed the doors of the train, presumably when he saw the turmoil on the platform and the man was outside the door, the police reported. The alleged perpetrator had still tried in vain to get into the train with kicks and fists. "The driver has stopped the perpetrator from coming back into the door," said the police deputy.

According to the prosecutor's office, he had accepted in his act approvingly, the people deadly injured. The accusation is nine times attempted manslaughter in unit with serious bodily injury. During the ax attack nine travelers were injured, some of them heavy.
Police are satisfied with the progress of the deployment

The horror of the deed was also reflected in the testimony of those responsible the next day. "It happened in the middle of a busy station, one of the most public places we have," said Düsseldorf's police president Norbert Wesseler.

However, he was satisfied with the overall stakes: "Fortunately", a panic had been avoided, the way for rescue vehicles and first aid was free, also the notification of victim relatives was immediately possible. "Our thoughts are with the victims who have suddenly, indiscriminately and unexpectedly sacrificed." The youngest victim is a 13-year-old girl, the others are between 30 and 50 years old. Among them were two Italian tourists.
