A Member of the European Parliament said the EU should inquire about misgovernance and the level of oppression as a major financier of the Ethiopian regime,
Ana Gomes was speaking in connection with the death of dozens of Ethiopians as a landfill outside the capital Addis Ababa collapsed Saturday night.
“Apart from expressing our solidarity with the people of Ethiopia, we should inquire about the level of misgovernance and oppression that the EU is funding in Ethiopia today,” Ms. Gomes told the Parliament.
The search for bodies still continues at the dump site where at least 82 people were buried alive when a mountain of garbage collapsed.
Four million tons of garbage is dumped everyday on the landfill, which sprawls over 36 hectares of land and 40 meters deep.
