አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ ነገ ኢትዮጵያ ይገባሉ

ቅዱስ ሲኖዶስ ወደ አንድ ከመጠቃለሉ በፊት በውጭ በነበረው ሲኖዶስ በዋና ጸሐፊነት ሲያገለግሉ የቆዩት አቡነ መልከጼዲቅ ዛሬ ወደ ኢትዮጵያ ተሸኝተዋል:: ነገ አዲስ አበባ ይገባሉ ተብሎ ይጠበቃል::

አጭር የሕይወት ታሪክ
አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ በጎንደር ክፍለ ሀገር በደብረታቦር አውራጃ  በፋርጣ ወረዳ፣ ልዩ ስሙ መገንታ ቁስቋም በተባለ ሥፍራ ከአባታቸው ከቄስ ወርቅነህ ትኩና ከእናታቸው ከወ/ሮ አንጓች አታሌ እንደ ኢትዮጵያ አቶጣጠር በ1916 ዓ/ም ተወለዱ። ገና የአስራ አንድ ዓመት ልጅ እያሉ በ1927 ዓ.ም ማዕረገ ድቁናን ከብፁዕ አቡነ አብርሃም ተቀበሉ፤ የአስራ አምስት ዓመት ወጣት ሳሉ ጣና በምትገኘው በክርስቶስ ሠምራ ገዳም መነኮሱ። በ1938 ዓ.ም ማዕረገ ቅስናን ከብፁዕ አቡነ ይስሐቅ ተቀበሉ። ብፁዕ አባታችን ዘመናዊ ትምህርትን ከመንፈሳዊው ትምህርት ጋር አጠናክረው ለመማር በ1939 ዓ.ም ወደ ቅድስት ሥላሴ መንፈሳዊ ትምህርት ቤት ገብተዋል። ከወዳጅ ቤተ ክርስቲያን በተገኘው ከፍተኛ የመንፈሳዊ ትምህርት ዕድል ቆስጠንጢንያ በሚገኘው የግሪክ ኦርቶዶክስ ኢኩሚኒካል መንበረ ፓትርያርክ ተልከው ልዩ ስሙ ሐልኪ በሚባለው የሥነ መለኮት (የቲኦሎጂ) ኮሌጅ በዲግሪ ተመርቀዋል። የመጀመሪያው ኢትዮጵያዊ የሥነ መለኮት (የቲኦሎጂ) ባለድግሪ ካህን በመሆንም በ1949 ዓ.ም. ወደ ሃገራቸው ተመልሰዋል።
ብፁዕ አባታችን መደበኛ ሥራቸውን የጀመሩት አዲስ አበባ በሚገኘው የቅድስት ሥላሴ መንፈሳዊ ትምህርት ቤት በመምህርነት ተመድበው የተማሩትን በማስተማር ነበር። በ1950 ዓ.ም. የሰዋሰው ብርሃን ቅዱስ ጳውሎስ መንፈሳዊ ትምህርት ቤት ዳይሬክተርና መምህር ሆነው እንዲሠሩ ተመርጠውና ተሹመው ሙያቸውን በተግባር ገልጠዋል። በ1952 ዓ.ም. የግርማዊ ቀዳማዊ ኃይለሥላሴ ልዩ ካቢኔ ሲቋቋም ለንጉሠ ነገሥቱ የሚቀርቡትን መንፈሳዊ ጉዳዮች ለማጣራት በኃላፊነት ተመርጠው የመንፈሳዊ ጉዳዮች መምርያ ዳያሬክተር ሆነው ተሹመዋል። ወዲያውም የመንበረ ጸባዖት ቅድስት ሥላሴ ካቴድራል ሊቀሥልጣናት ሆነው ተሹመው ሁለቱንም ከፍተኛ ኃላፊነቶች በመሸከም እስከ 1966 ዓ.ም ድረስ ለ14 ዓመታት ከፍተኛ የሥራ ውጤት አሳይተዋል።
ብፁዕ አባታችን አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ ፈጣሪ በሰጣቸው እውቀትና ጥበብ እስከ ዛሬው ዕለት ድረስ 21 መጻሕፍትን በተለያዩ ቋንቋዎች ደርሰው ያሳተሙ ሲሆን 11 የሚሆኑ ያልታተሙና ለህትመት የተዘጋጁ መጻሕፍቶችን ደርሰዋል። ብፁዕ አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ በ1983 ዓ.ም. ከብፁዕ ወቅዱስ አቡነ መርቆሬዎስ ፓትርያርክ ርዕሰ ሊቃነ ጳጳሳት ዘኢትዮጵያ እጅ ጵጵስናን ተቀብለዋል።
ብፁዕ አባታችን አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ ላበረከቱት ከፍተኛ ሐይማኖታዊ፤ ሰብአዊና ሀገራዊ አገልግሎቶች ከሀገራችንና ከተለያዩ የውጪ ሀገራት በርካታ የክብር ሽልማቶችንና ልዩ የክብር አልባሳትን ተጎናጽፈዋል። ዋናዋናዎቹን ለመጥቀስ ያህል፦

ብፁዕ አባታችን አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ ከሚወዷት ሀገር የተሰደዱት በሥርዓት መጓደል፣ በቀኖና መፍረስ፣ የመንግሥት ቀጥታ በሐይማኖት ተቋም ውስጥ ጣልቃ መግባትና ፓትርያርክ በሕይዎት እያለ በሌላ እንዲተካ ከማድረግ ጀምሮ ከተራ ንፍቀ ዲያቆን እስከ መንበረ ፓርትያርክ ያለው የሥራ ቦታ እየተቀማ ከሥራቸው እያባረረ በምትካቸው ብቃት የሌላቸውንና ከሃይማኖቱ ጋር ቁርኝት ያልፈጠረባቸውን ካድሬዎችን በማስገባት የኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ሕግ ተጥሶ፣ ደንቡ ፈርሶ፣ ቀኖናው ተዛብቶ፣ ስርዓቱ ደፍርሶ የግፉ ዋንጫ ሞልቶ ሰለፈሰሰ ነበር።
ብፁዕ አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ በስደት ዓለም በብጹእ ወቅዱስ አቡነ መርቆርዮስ የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ሕጋዊ ፓርቲያሪክ መሪነት እሳቸው ዋና ጸሐፊ በመሆን ሕጋዊው ሲኖዶስ በስደቱ ዓለም እንዲጠናከርና እንዲስፋፋ ብርቱ ጥረት አድርገዋል። ብፁዕ አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ የሕጋዊው ሲኖዶስ ዋና ጸሐፊና የካሊፎርኒያ ግዛት ሊቀ ጳጳስ መደበኛ ጽሕፈት ቤታቸውን ካሊፎርንያ በርክሊይ በማድረግ እንደዘንግ እየተወረወሩ በመላው አሜሪካ፣ ካናዳ፣ አውስትራሊያ፣ መካከለኛው ምሥራቅ፣ የሩቅ ምሥራቅ፣ ኢሲያ፣ በመላው አውሮፓና በደቡብ አፍሪካ በመሄድ ወገኖቻቸውን አሰባሰቡ፤ አጽናኑ፣ አበረታቱ ገንዘብም ለምነው ቤተ ክርስቲያን አሳነጹ፣ በጸሎታቸውም ተጉ። እንደ ሐዋርያው ጳውሎስም ደጋግመው ጎበኟቸው። በፅኑ መሠረት ላይ የጸኑትን አብያተ ክርስቲያናት በሕጋዊ ቅዱስ ሲኖዶስ ስር እንዲተዳደሩ አደረጉ።
ብጹዕ አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ አማርኛ፣ እንግሊዘኛ፣ ግዕዝ፣ ግርክኛ፣ ቱርከኛ፣ አረብኛና ትግሪኛ ቋንቋ የሚችሉ በመሆናቸው መጽሐፍትን ለማንበብ፣ እንግዶችን ለማነጋገር፣ እንዲሁም በየቤተ ክርስቲያኖቻቸው ተጋብዘው ሲሄዱ በቋንቋቸው በመናገር ብዙዎቹን ያስደመሙ የቋንቋ ባለጸጋ ናቸው።
ብጹዕነታቸው በካሊፎርኒያ ግዛትና በአለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ላደረጉት ከፍተኛ ሐይማኖታዊና ሰብአዊ እንቅስቃሴ ስደተኛው እምነቱን እንዲያጸና፣ ሐይማኖቱን እንዲጠብቅ፣ በጥሩ ሥነምግባር እንዲታነጽ፣ ብርቱና ጠንካራ ሠራተኛ እንዲሆን፤ እንዲሁም ወላጆች ልጆቻቸውን በትክክለኛው ጎዳና እንዲያሳድጉ፤ ልጆችም በሐይማኖታዊ ምግባር ታንጸው ጠንካራና መልካም ዜጋ እንዲሆኑ በማስተማር ላደረጉት ከፍተኛ አስተዋጽኦ ከአምስት የካሊፎርንያ ግዛት ከንቲባዎች፦ ከኦክላንድ ሊቢ ሼፍ፣ ካሳንፍራንሲስኮ ኤድዊን ሊ፣ ከሳን ሆዜ ሳም ሊካርዶ፣ ከበርክሊ ቶም ባትስ፣ እና ከሳንታ ክላራ ሊዛ ጊልሞር ፤ ከሶስት የሕዝብ ተወካዮች፦ ከናንሲ ፐሎሲ፣ ከባርብራ ሊ፣ እና ከማይክል ሆንዳ፤ ከሁለት የጉባኤ አባላት፦ ከዳያን ፊንስታይን እና ከካሜላ ሃረስ እንዲሁም ከካሊፎርንያ ግዛት የሸንጎ አባል ሮን ቦንታ የምስክር ወረቀትና የከፍተኛ የሕይወት ዘመን ተሸላሚ እንዲሆኑ ወስነው የትውልዳቸው ቀን ጁላይ 19 በየአመቱ የአቡነ መልከጼዴቅ ቀን እንዲሆን ሰይመውላቸዋል። በዚህም የተነሳ ብጹዕነታቸው ከትውልድ ሀገራቸው ውጪ በስደት ዓለም ፈጣሪያቸውን፣ ተከታይ የመንፈስ ልጆቻቸውን፣ ሀገራቸውን ያስከበሩ ምሉዕ አባት ናቸው።

ብጹዕ ሊቀጳጳስ አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ ለክርስቶስ ራሳቸውን የሰጡ፣ የጳውሎስን አረአያ የተከተሉ፣ እንደ አቡነ ጴጥሮስ የተጋደሉ፣ የእግዚአብሔር ፍጡር የሆነ የሰው ልጅ ምንም ዓይነት በደል እንዲደርስበት የማይፈልጉ፤ ኃጢያትን የሚጠየፉ፣ ከምንም በላይ ክርስቲያኖች እርስ በእርሳቸው ተከባብረው፣ ተፈቃቅረው፣ እራሳቸውን በመፅሐፍ ቅዱስ ቃል አንጸው፣ በፈጣሪ እምነት ጸንተው፣ እንዲቆዩ ያስተማሩ አባት ናቸው። በሕይወት ዘመናቸው ላበረከቱት ከፍተኛ አስተዋጸኦ ባይመጥንም ማስታወሻቸው ይሆን ዘንድ ይህንን ቤተ መጽሐፍት ወመዘክር የብጹዕ አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ ሊቀጳጳስ ቤተ መጽሐፍት እንዲሆን በእሳቸው ስም የተቋቋመው የመልከጸዴቅ ፋውንዴሽንና የኦክላንድ መድኀኔዓለም ቤተ ክርስቲያን በወሰነው ውሳኔ ግንቦት 4 ቀን 2010 ዓ.ም. (May 12, 2018) በብጹዕ አባታችን አቡነ መልከጼዴቅ ተመርቆ ተከፍቷል። መጻሕፍት ቤቱ ብጹዕ አባታችን ያነበቧቸውና የጻፏቸው መጻሕፍቶችና ማስታወሻዎች እንዲሁም የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋህዶ ቤተክርስቲያን የምትመራባቸውን ቀኖናዎች፣ ታሪኮች፣ የታተሙና ያልታተሙ መጻሕፍቶቿ የሚሰበሰቡበትና ለአንባቢ፣ ለአጥኝ፣ ለተመራማሪ እንዲመቻች ለመድረግ ነው። እንኳን ደስ ያላችሁ:
Condensed Biography of His Eminence Archbishop Abune Melketsedek
His Eminence Archbishop Abune Melketsedek was born in the locality of Megenta Kusquam, in the district of Debre Tabor, province of Gondar, Ethiopia, to his father Priest Workneh Teku and his mother Mrs. Anguach Atale on July 24, 1924. In 1935, at the tender age of eleven, His Eminence was ordained a deacon by Bishop Abune Abraham. Four years later, absolving himself of the secular life he never had much care for, he committed himself to the services of the Lord and became a monk at the age of 15 at the convent of Kristos Semra, near Lake Tana. He was ordained a priest in 1946 by His Eminence Abune Yishak.
In 1948, with the natural inclination to supplement his ecclesiastical training, His Eminence enrolled in Kidist Selassie Theological College. During his fourth year, under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarchate, he attended Holy Theological School of Halki, the Patriarchate’s main School of Theology in Turkey, and returned to his country in 1958 as the first Ethiopian theologian cleric.
His Eminence joined the workforce as an instructor at the Theological College of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he was later appointed Director of Sewasew Berhan St. Paul School of Theology in 1958. In 1960, His Eminence was chosen to serve on Emperor Haile Selassie’s Crown Council as Director of Religious Affairs, overseeing the vetting of all religious matters that come before the Emperor. Immediately following this appointment, he was also appointed Arch-hierarch of Menbere Tsebaot Kidist Selassie Cathedral. He simultaneously filled both positions until 1974.
His Eminence is a prolific writer and a scholar who made a significant contribution to the Ethiopian Orthodox church by publishing canonical books that are fundamental to the Ethiopian Orthodox faith. He has authored 32 books, 21 of which were published, and 11 remain in manuscript form. In 1983, with His Holiness Patriarch Abune Merkoriwos officiating, His Emminence Abune Melketsedek was enthroned as Archbishop. In recognition of his tireless efforts His Eminence has received the following honorary awards and vestments from his country and different foreign countries over his lifetime.

His Eminence was exiled from his beloved country in 1992 after bearing witness to the upheaval that was brought on the church by the government; its interference with church governance, the enthronement of a new patriarchate while the incumbent patriarch was still alive, its replacement of clergy with unqualified persons and its egregious violation of the cardinal tenets of the Ethiopian Orthodox church. He openly criticized the government and produced writings of opposition along with other church leaders, which resulted in the government’s pursuit of him. Consequently, he fled the country on October 20th, 1992 taking refuge in the United States.
Along with a group of other exiled leaders including Abuna Zenamarkos, Abuna Elias and Abuna Gorgoriyos, with the partnership of Abuna Yishak, Archbishop of the Ethiopian Orthodox Churches in North America and Europe, and the leadership of the exiled Patriarch who was living in Kenya at the time, His Eminence ensured the continuation and expansion of the Ethiopian Orthodox Holy Synod despite its displacement from its home. Under the leadership of His Eminence as General Secretary, the Synod sought to console the distraught Christians in Ethiopia while seizing the opportunity to gather the multitude of Ethiopians who had migrated to North America and Europe since the 1970s.
As General Secretary of The Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church-In-Exile, His Eminence established his secretariat in Berkeley, CA, but traveled far, in the manner of the missionary journeys of the Apostle St. Paul, to Canada, Australia, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and South Africa to organize and nurture the ardent Ethiopian Christians, tirelessly soliciting for funds to build them church buildings.
In addition to his native Amharic, His Eminence speaks Geez (the ancient classical and liturgical language of Ethiopia), Tigrigna, English, Greek, Turkish, and Arabic, which has enabled him to read, interact with visitors and easily communicate whenever he is invited for a visit to places where these languages are spoken.
For his exceptional stewardship over his jurisdiction in California, the tremendous religious and social strides he made in providing spiritual guidance to the faithful Ethiopian immigrants at large and his invaluable services to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, His Eminence is a recipient of certificates of recognition from United States Congressman Michael M Honda, United States Congresswoman Barbara Lee, 13th congressional district, United States Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, 12th congressional district, United States senator from California, Kamala Harris, United States senator from California, Dianne Feinstein, Assemblyman Rob Bonta and The California Legislature Assembly. In addition, His Eminence also received certificates of declaration, proclaiming July 19th, his date of birth, Archbishop Melketsedek Workneh day, from Mayor Edwin Lee for City and County of San Francisco, Mayor Libby Schaaf for the City of Oakland, Sam Liccardo for the City of San Jose, Tom Bates for the City of Berkeley and Lisa M Gillmor for the City of Santa Clara.
His Eminence Abune Melketsedek devoted his life to Christ, advocated equal rights for all and tirelessly taught the paramount importance of Christians respecting and loving one another and modeling themselves after the gospel. Concerning the social and political challenges of his country, he preached intensely and tirelessly against religious and racial divide and urged all Ethiopians to live in peace and harmony with the understanding of their lineage to the holy land that is Ethiopia. He supplicated for the brutally murdered, the unjustly imprisoned, the impoverished and the sick, while persistently speaking out against perpetrators of evil.
Although not befitting his outstanding contributions, Mekane Selam Medhanealem Cathedral and Melketsedek foundation designate this museum library Archbishop Abune Melketsedek Library & Museum in commemoration of His Eminence’s legacy. It will serve as a repository of primary source materials on His Eminence, such as his written bodies of work, his personal library of books and memorabilia, among other archives. It is inaugurated with his benediction on this day May 12, 2018.
