65 Ethiopians to be whipped in Sudan for protesting at Ethiopian embassy

Citing report by Radio Dabanga, Ethiopian Satellite Television says a court in Khartoum sentenced 65 Ethiopians to be whipped forty times. Their crime? Protesting at the embassy of Ethiopia in Khartoum.
Ethiopians protested last week against new increase in fees for permit to stay in Sudan. Fee increased by more than six fold to $308 from $48, according to the report.
Apparently, Ethiopians were protesting at the Ethiopian embassy to ask the government of Ethiopia to intervene. Ethiopians often complain about abuses and mistreatment in Sudan.
Meanwhile, Sudanese regional authorities were in Mekele, capital of Tigray regional government, for a two days conference on Ethio-Sudanese border last week which coincided, apparently, with TPLF’s its 42 anniversary which was celebrated in Mekelle.
