All Ethiopian Unity Party(AEUP/MEAD) called the Tigray People Libration Front (TPLF) government to stop Ethnic Cleansing of citizens in different parts of Ethiopia.
AEUP denounces the TPLF government for the recent forced eviction, killing ,and arrest of citizens in Godere, Gura Ferda, Afar, Basqito and South Omo by government forces.
The ensuing ethnic cleansing in Gambela region Godere Wereda has reportedly claimed hundreds of lives and caused thousands of people to flee their homes. AEUP estimate of the number of citizens killed in this government sponsored violence is 540, but, there is a high probability that these figures are grossly under-reported.
Thousands of villagers fleeing homes to avoid fresh figihing and killing in Gura Ferda Wereda and Gambela. Several news reports and reports by rights groups suggests great amount of planning by TPLF government to systematically target citizens in these areas. The TPLF government security forces acted in complicity with the perpetrators, acting as passive bystanders at best or participating in the killing and arson, at worst.
AEUP said that the response of this minority government, led by Tigray People Libration Front(TPLF), towards protecting the citizens has been non-committal and nonchalant. No serious steps have been taken either to bring the perpetrators to book, rehabilitate the displaced people, or prevent future outbreaks.
AEUP will continue its struggle to ensure the right of Ethiopian citizens in different parts of Ethiopia and urged the whole Ethiopians people to stand together to stop TPLF ethnic cleansing.
