Fight to free British national held on death row in Ethiopia

(doughty street chambers) British national Mr Andargachew Tsege is currently held in indefinite detention in Ethiopia pursuant to a death sentence imposed in his absence.David Cameron writes to Ethiopian PM
A well-known and respected critic of the Ethiopian government, Mr Tsege was granted refugee status on political grounds by the UK in 1979.  In June 2014, Mr Tsege was abducted during a two-hour stopover at Sana’a Airport in Yemen and unlawfully rendered to Ethiopia, where he has been held for the past 7.5 months in an undisclosed location.  He has no access to a lawyer or regular consular assistance, and no information has been provided as to the conditions of his detention.
An electronic petition asking Prime Minister David Cameron to request Mr Tsege’s return to the UK can be signed here: Mr Tsege’s partner Yemi Hailemariam will be handing the petition to Downing Street on 9 February 2015 at 4.30pm.
Ben Cooper and Katie O’Byrne act for Andy Tsege and Ms Hailemariam, instructed by Rosa Curling of Leigh Day, in partnership with Reprieve.
